WINCan Brand & Web Redesign

I worked with WINCan’s Co-Principal Catalyst, Tom Carey, to develop a website prototype that would help WINCan meet the needs of their different audiences, and position them as leaders in Canadian workplace innovation.

Objectives

1. Define the target audience and each user’s needs

2. Determine the strengths and weakness of the current website, and what needs to be improved.

3. Design a brand strategy that communicates WINCan’s commitment to innovation, excellence, and fostering connections.

4. Create a website prototype that addresses all the users needs, is easy to navigate, and clearly communicates WINCan’s mission.

Background

The Workplace Innovation Network for Canada is an organization that aims to connect students with opportunities to develop their innovative skills in real-world contexts. They are focused on connecting workplaces with academic institutions to foster innovation. They also conduct research to find new ways to innovate. All of these initiatives and projects are posted on their website: Wincan.ca. However, in order to grow the organization and receive more funding, WINCan must be able to effectively communicate their goals and successes.

Visual Identity Development

Logo Redesign

Old (current)

New

I redesigned the logo to look cleaner and more professional. It can be easily applied to both print and digital assets, allowing WINCan’s brand to be consistent across platforms.

Visual Identity Moodboard

After several iterations, this was the final colour palette and visual language I developed. It communicates WINCan’s trustworthiness and personability, as well as their commitment to innovation.

Website Prototype

The final website prototype includes 9 pages (home, about, our team, blog, projects, contact, post template, and project template).

Eye-catching landing page with a value proposition and an immediate call to action.

Prompts users to get in touch for more information and creates potential for WINCan to grow its network

Testimonials to show WINCan’s impact on student and employer success in innovative practices

A section to highlights WINCan’s success and past achievements

An overview of WINCan’s collaborations so audiences can identify themselves as potential partners (call to action to “become a partner”)

A brief “about” section to introduce the organization to new audiences

A project introduction section that clearly outlines WINCan’s mission and encourages the user to seek more information

The Blog and Projects pages allow users to sort through WINCan’s blog posts and find information related to specific projects or topics.

I developed the sort & filter system myself by browsing the content on WINCan’s current website and identifying what categories and topics users may search for.

Reflections

This project challenged my skills in User Experience Design. Blog websites like this require a strong understanding of content management systems, which I am not as familiar with. However, through research and testing, I believe I found a solution that will meet the needs of WINCan’s target audience.
